Description

This creamy Kalamata Olive Dip blends briny kalamata olives with smooth cream cheese, accented by garlic and dried onion for a flavorful spread perfect with pita chips or crackers. Easy to prepare in minutes using a food processor, this dip is a savory addition to any appetizer platter or snack time.

Ingredients

Dip

  • 250 grams (8.8 oz) kalamata olives, pitted and drained, reserving some brine, not rinsed
  • 250 grams (8.8 oz) cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 tbsp olive brine (reserved from olives)
  • 1 tbsp dried onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

To Serve

  • Pita chips or crackers

Instructions

  1. Prepare Kalamata Olives: Add the pitted kalamata olives to the bowl of a food processor and blitz for approximately 5 seconds to roughly chop. Remove the lid and scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula to ensure even chopping.
  2. Combine Ingredients: To the chopped olives, add the softened cream cheese, garlic powder, dried onion, and reserved olive brine. Blitz again for 5 seconds, scrape down the bowl with a spatula, and blitz one more time to thoroughly combine all ingredients into a smooth dip.
  3. Serve: Transfer the combined dip into a serving bowl using a spatula. Provide a cheese knife for spreading and arrange pita chips or crackers around the dip for dipping and serving.

Notes

  • Kalamata olives: Use a standard 250 gram jar. Drain but keep a little of the brine to add flavor and avoid rinsing to retain their characteristic taste.
  • Cream cheese: Bring to room temperature before use for easier blending and a smoother texture.
  • Dried onion: Found in the herbs and spices section, it offers great flavor without the hassle of chopping fresh onion. Substitute with 1 teaspoon onion powder if preferred.
