Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 15 ounce can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 clove garlic, peeled
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (optional, can be omitted for oil-free)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh chopped basil
- 2-3 tablespoons ice cold water (or more as needed)
Optional Toppings
- More chopped fresh herbs
- Pomegranate seeds
- Pine nuts
- Olive oil drizzle
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Drain and rinse the cannellini beans thoroughly to remove excess liquid and any canned taste. Peel the garlic clove and chop fresh basil if not already done.
- Combine in Food Processor: Add the drained beans, peeled garlic, fresh lemon juice, olive oil (if using), salt, pepper, chopped basil, and 2 tablespoons of ice cold water to the bowl of a food processor.
- Puree Until Smooth: Blend the mixture for about 4-5 minutes until it becomes smooth and creamy. If the dip is too thick or not creamy enough, add additional cold water a tablespoon at a time to reach the desired consistency and fluffiness.
- Adjust Flavor: Taste the dip and adjust seasoning by adding more salt, pepper, lemon juice, or herbs as preferred to achieve balanced flavor.
- Serve and Garnish: Transfer the dip to a serving bowl. Garnish with optional toppings like extra chopped fresh herbs, pomegranate seeds, pine nuts, and a drizzle of olive oil for added flavor and visual appeal.
- Enjoy: Serve the white bean dip with pita bread, pita chips, or fresh vegetable sticks such as cucumber and carrots for a delicious and healthy snack or appetizer.
Notes
- You can substitute cannellini beans with other white beans like great northern, navy, or butter beans.
- Other fresh herbs such as rosemary, thyme, or parsley work well; alternatively, use 1 teaspoon dried basil if fresh is unavailable.
- The dip can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
