Description
This Spiced Pumpkin & Pecan Old-Fashioned is a perfect fall cocktail that blends the cozy, spiced sweetness of pumpkin butter with a homemade spiced pecan syrup made from toasted pecans, brown sugar, and cinnamon, finished with bourbon and chocolate bitters for a rich, warming drink ideal for the autumn season.
Ingredients
Spiced Pecan Syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup pecans
- 4 cinnamon sticks
Cocktail
- 1 bar spoon pumpkin butter
- ½ ounce spiced pecan syrup
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 2 dashes chocolate bitters
- Shaved chocolate, for garnish
- 3 pecans, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Spiced Pecan Syrup: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup water, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup pecans, and 4 cinnamon sticks. Simmer gently for 10–15 minutes to dissolve the sugar and infuse the flavors.
- Steep and Strain: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture steep for another 10 minutes to deepen the flavors. Then strain the syrup to remove solids and allow it to cool completely. Store the spiced pecan syrup in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
- Mix the Cocktail: Fill a mixing glass with ice. Add 1 bar spoon of pumpkin butter, ½ ounce of the prepared spiced pecan syrup, 2 ounces of bourbon, and 2 dashes of chocolate bitters. Stir well until combined and chilled.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with shaved chocolate and finish by adding 3 pecans on top for a festive touch.
Notes
- Use fresh pumpkin butter for the best flavor and a rich, creamy texture.
- Adjust the amount of spiced pecan syrup to your preference for sweetness.
- The spiced pecan syrup can be stored refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
- Garnishing with shaved chocolate and pecans adds texture and visual appeal.
- For a non-alcoholic version, substitute bourbon with a spiced chai or maple syrup infused sparkling water.
