Ingredients

Burger Patties

  • 1 pound ground beef (80% lean / 20% fat)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Buns

  • 4 hamburger buns, split and toasted

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1624 slices pepperoni

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Burger Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until just combined and form the mixture into 4 evenly sized patties. Set the patties aside to rest for a few minutes so the seasoning can meld into the meat.
  2. Toast the Buns: Preheat a grill or grill pan, and also set your broiler to medium-high. Place the split hamburger buns, cut side up, on a baking sheet. Toast them under the broiler until golden brown. Remove the top halves and set aside for later.
  3. Grill the Patties: Place the burger patties on the preheated grill or grill pan. Cook each patty for about 4-5 minutes per side, until they are nicely browned and cooked through to your desired doneness.
  4. Prepare Toppings: While the burgers are grilling, set a small saucepan over low heat and warm the pizza sauce, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching. Next, spread half of the warmed pizza sauce over the bottom halves of the toasted buns. Sprinkle with half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and arrange half of the pepperoni slices over the cheese. Place the buns under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from the oven.
  5. Assemble the Pizza Burgers: Once the patties are cooked, place one patty on each prepared bottom bun. Spoon the remaining warm pizza sauce over the burgers, then top each with the remaining mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices. Briefly broil again until the cheese is melted and everything is hot and gooey. Cap each with the reserved top bun halves.
