Ingredients
Turkey Burger Mixture
- 1 pound ground turkey (85% lean, 15% fat)
- ¼ cup finely chopped Italian parsley
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons very finely diced red onions
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese
- ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Olive oil for pan
Buns and Toppings
- 4 burger buns of your choice (sesame or brioche recommended)
- Tzatziki sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- Crumbled feta cheese
- Tomato slices
- Cucumber slices
- Onion slices
- Lettuce
Instructions
- Prepare Tzatziki Sauce: Make the tzatziki sauce according to your recipe or use store-bought. This can be prepared 1-2 days in advance and kept chilled until serving.
- Mix Turkey Burger Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, parsley, dill, oregano, red onions, garlic, crumbled feta, salt, and pepper. Gently mix with your hands until ingredients are evenly combined, avoiding overmixing to keep patties tender.
- Form Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each into a ½ inch thick patty about ⅓ to ½ inch wider than your buns, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing and shrinking during cooking.
- Cook Patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook each patty for 4-5 minutes per side until fully cooked through and golden brown. Avoid pressing down on patties to retain moisture.
- Assemble Burgers: On the bottom bun, layer lettuce, turkey burger, tzatziki sauce, crumbled feta, tomato slices, cucumber slices, onion slices, more tzatziki, and top with the bun. Serve immediately and enjoy.
Notes
- Make patties slightly larger than buns to accommodate shrinking during cooking.
- Create an indentation in each patty center to prevent puffing up and uneven cooking.
- Use 85% lean, 15% fat ground turkey for juicy texture.
- Avoid overmixing the meat to prevent dry, tough burgers.
- Cook patties for no longer than 4-5 minutes per side on medium heat to retain juiciness.
- Store cooked patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Prepare patties ahead and refrigerate for up to 2 days with parchment paper between each.
- Freeze uncooked patties with parchment paper between them for up to 3 months; thaw overnight before cooking.
- Substitute red onions with yellow or white onions.
- Use store-bought tzatziki if preferred.
- For a low-carb option, replace buns with lettuce wraps.
- Recommended buns include brioche, sesame, or onion rolls.
- Avoid using dried herbs other than the specified dried oregano for best flavor.
