Description

This simple and flavorful Gordon Ramsay spaghetti sauce recipe features a rich tomato and ground beef base enhanced with aromatic herbs and spices. Ready in just 30 minutes, it’s the perfect hearty topping for your pasta, delivering classic Italian-inspired comfort with minimal effort.

Ingredients

For the Sauce:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ½ lb ground Italian sausage + ½ lb ground beef)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley flakes
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Crushed red pepper flakes, to taste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves (optional)

For Serving:

  • Spaghetti noodles

Instructions

  1. Brown the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef (or mix of ground beef and Italian sausage) with the chopped onion until the meat is thoroughly browned and the onion is softened. Drain off any excess grease to prevent the sauce from becoming oily.
  2. Add Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, dried parsley flakes, garlic powder, crushed red pepper flakes to taste, Worcestershire sauce, and granulated sugar to the browned meat mixture.
  3. Simmer: Add 1 cup of water, then bring the sauce to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and allow it to simmer gently for 20 minutes. This allows all the flavors to meld together beautifully.
  4. Finish: Just before serving, stir in fresh basil leaves if using, to add a bright, fresh herbal note to the sauce.
  5. Serve: Cook your spaghetti noodles according to package instructions, then top them generously with the prepared sauce and enjoy your classic Italian meal.

Notes

  • Mix beef and sausage for richer flavor: Combining ground beef with Italian sausage creates a more savory and complex sauce.
  • Simmer for deeper flavor: Aim to simmer the sauce for at least 20 minutes; longer simmering will enhance the taste even more.
  • Adjust spice level: Add extra crushed red pepper flakes or chili powder to suit your heat preference.
  • Drain grease after browning: Removing excess grease after cooking the meat helps keep the sauce from becoming greasy.
