Description
These Gluten-Free Beet Crackers are a nutritious and vibrant snack made from cooked beets and gluten-free oat flour, perfectly seasoned with garlic and onion powder. They bake into crisp, flavorful crackers ideal for a healthy, crunchy treat or as an accompaniment to dips and spreads.
Ingredients
Cracker Dough
- 1 cup cooked beets, mashed or finely grated
- 1 cup gluten-free oat flour (or almond flour)
- 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Mix Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed beets, gluten-free oat flour, ground flaxseed, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper. Stir well until a thick, pliable dough forms. Adjust the texture by adding more flour if too wet or a splash of water if too dry.
- Roll Dough: Place the dough between two sheets of parchment paper and roll it out to about 1/8-inch thickness to achieve thin, crispy crackers.
- Cut Crackers: Remove the top parchment sheet and cut the dough into triangles or any desired cracker shapes using a knife or pizza cutter.
- Bake: Transfer the parchment paper with the cut crackers onto the baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the crackers are crisp and firm to the touch.
- Cool and Store: Allow the crackers to cool completely on the baking sheet before transferring them to an airtight container for storage, ensuring they remain crisp.
Notes
- Use golden beets for a milder flavor and lighter color.
- For an aromatic twist, add herbs like rosemary or thyme to the dough.
