Description
Create adorable Easter-themed gingerbread houses using graham crackers, Peeps marshmallow candies, and colorful decorations. This easy no-bake recipe uses royal icing as edible glue to assemble and decorate festive Peeps houses, perfect for a fun family activity during spring holidays.
Ingredients
House Ingredients
- 3 full graham crackers
- 1 Peep marshmallow candy
- M&Ms, sprinkles, or other desired candies for decorating
Royal Icing Ingredients
- 2 large egg whites
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Prepare the graham crackers: Break each of the 3 full graham crackers in half by scoring with a sharp knife to ensure even pieces. Then, take one half and cut it in half again to create the triangular roof supports by sawing gently with the knife.
- Assemble the back wall: Pipe royal icing along the top edge of one graham cracker half and attach it to the base of the triangle piece to form the back wall of the house. Hold briefly to secure.
- Form the roof: Use two graham cracker halves to create the roof by piping icing along their edges where they meet the back wall and along the ridge.
- Attach the side walls: Use the remaining two graham cracker halves to form the front and side walls, securing them with royal icing.
- Let the icing harden: Allow the assembled structure to set and harden for at least 15 minutes before decorating or moving it.
- Place and stabilize the house: Pipe icing along the bottom edges of the walls and set the house onto a paper plate, helping it stand sturdily.
- Prepare the Peep: Slice the bottom of the Peep candy flat so it stands level, then place it inside the house secured with a dab of royal icing.
- Decorate the house: Use M&Ms, sprinkles, and other candies to embellish the house, attaching them with royal icing as desired.
Notes
- Royal icing takes time to harden; be patient during assembly to ensure structural integrity.
- You can double the royal icing recipe if making multiple Peeps houses.
- Use a sharp serrated knife for cleaner cuts of the graham crackers.
- This craft is great for kids with adult supervision due to knife use and raw egg whites in icing.
- Store finished Peeps houses in a cool, dry place to prevent softening.
