Description

This Cottage Cheese Flatbread recipe is a quick and easy way to enjoy soft, warm flatbreads made with simple ingredients. Combining cottage cheese and flour, these flatbreads are lightly pan-cooked to create a pillowy texture that pairs perfectly with curries, soups, or can be enjoyed as a standalone snack with cheese or hummus. The recipe requires minimal prep time and ingredients, making it ideal for a wholesome homemade treat.

Ingredients

Flatbread Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Cottage cheese
  • 1 Cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 Tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 2 Tbsps Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Start the Dough: Add cottage cheese, flour, an egg, and a little salt to a mixing bowl.
  2. Bring It Together Gently: Mix everything until it forms a soft, slightly sticky dough. It doesn’t need to be perfect, just workable.
  3. Let the Dough Relax: Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for 5–10 minutes which helps to soften the dough and makes it easier to handle.
  4. Divide Into Portions: Cut the dough into small, palm-sized pieces ensuring that each flatbread cooks evenly.
  5. Shape Each Piece: Flatten each portion into a rough circle shape. It doesn’t have to be perfect; a casual shape is fine.
  6. Heat the Skillet: Warm a skillet over medium heat and brush or drizzle a little olive oil to prepare for cooking.
  7. Cook Each Flatbread: Place one piece of dough onto the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until browned, puffed slightly, and emits a toasty aroma.
  8. Stack and Soften: Once cooked, stack the flatbreads under a towel to retain warmth and softness through steam.
  9. Ready to Serve: Serve warm with curries, soups, or as a quick snack with cheese or hummus. Enjoy the soft, flavorful flatbread fresh from the skillet.

Notes

  • If you want extra flavor, brush the flatbreads with olive oil and sprinkle sea salt or za’atar immediately after they come off the heat.
