Description
Crispy, golden air fryer toasted ravioli is a delicious and easy appetizer made by coating refrigerated ravioli in a seasoned egg wash and Italian seasoned Panko breadcrumbs, then air frying until perfectly toasted. Served with marinara sauce for dipping, this recipe offers a quick, healthier alternative to traditional fried versions.
Ingredients
Ravioli Preparation
- 20 ounce package refrigerated ravioli
Egg Mixture
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Breading
- 1 cup Italian seasoned Panko breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese (shaker style/powder works best)
Garnish and Serving
- Fresh chopped parsley, for garnish
- Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
- Prepare ravioli: Open the package of refrigerated ravioli and carefully separate any pieces that are stuck together. Set aside. Do not boil the ravioli; it will cook through in the air fryer.
- Make egg wash: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, garlic powder, coarse salt, and black pepper. Add the ravioli to this mixture and toss gently to coat every piece thoroughly. Set aside.
- Prepare breadcrumb mixture: In a separate medium bowl, combine the Italian seasoned Panko breadcrumbs with grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
- Bread the ravioli: Working a few ravioli at a time, press each egg-coated piece into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it is fully coated on all sides. Shake off any excess breadcrumbs.
- Arrange ravioli: Place the breaded ravioli in a single layer on a baking sheet without letting them touch. If stacking is necessary, place plastic wrap between layers to prevent sticking.
- Preheat air fryer and prepare basket: Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (if preheating is required) for about 5 minutes.
- Air fry the ravioli: Place a single layer of breaded ravioli into the basket, making sure the pieces do not touch. Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray to encourage browning. Air fry for 4 to 5 minutes until they are golden, crispy, and heated through.
- Repeat air frying: Continue air frying the remaining ravioli in batches following the same process.
- Serve: Garnish the toasted ravioli with fresh chopped parsley and additional grated Parmesan if desired. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Use fresh refrigerated ravioli, not frozen, for best results.
- Cooking times may vary depending on the brand, size, and thickness of the ravioli, so adjust accordingly.
- The recipe can be baked in the oven as an alternative to air frying; however, air frying yields a crispier texture with less oil.
- Ensure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow even cooking and crispiness.
