Description
Crispy on the outside and tangy on the inside, these Air Fryer Fried Pickles are a healthier take on the classic appetizer. With a crunchy breadcrumb coating and a creamy dipping sauce, they’re perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
For the Pickles:
1 cup sliced pickles
2 large eggs
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon hot sauce (I use Tabasco)
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
For the Dip:
¼ cup sour cream
¼ cup mayonnaise
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
¼ cup minced onions (the finer, the better)
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried dill (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the pickles: Lay a couple of sheets of paper towels on a flat surface. Arrange the pickle slices on the towels and place more paper towels on top to absorb excess moisture. Let them sit for a few minutes to dry.
- Make the egg wash: In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, flour, hot sauce, salt, and black pepper.
- Coat the pickles: In another shallow dish, add the panko breadcrumbs. Working one pickle at a time, dip it into the egg wash, then coat it in the breadcrumbs. Transfer the coated pickles to a baking sheet.
- Preheat the air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the breaded pickles in a single layer with a bit of space between each one. Lightly spray with oil.
- Air-fry the pickles: Air-fry for 5-7 minutes, then flip the pickles, spray with more oil, and air-fry for an additional 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Make the dip: While the pickles are cooking, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, salt, black pepper, minced onions, garlic, and optional dried dill in a small bowl. Stir until smooth.
- Serve: Serve the crispy fried pickles hot with the dipping sauce on the side. Enjoy!
Notes
For extra heat, use a spicier hot sauce or add red pepper flakes to the breadcrumbs.
Make this recipe gluten-free by using gluten-free breadcrumbs and flour.
Add shredded parmesan to the breadcrumbs for a cheesy crunch.
If you prefer a deep-fried version, you can fry them in hot oil (around 350°F) instead of using the air fryer.
